Regular worming a must for pet owners

In a study involving 1400 dogs, researchers from Murdoch's School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences recently discovered that overall 23.9% of dogs were infected with an intestinal parasite one of which was giardia. The first study of its kind in Australia, found almost one in ten dogs were infected with giardia. This was most common in dogs under two years of age. As a result of these findings we are encouraging pet owners to be aware of the signs of giardia and also how to prevent infection.  At the same time we continue to encourage pet owners to be vigiliant with their intestinal worming regimes or to ask our friendly healthcare team for more information about testing and prevention.
