Dr Craig Miller BSc (Hons) BVMS - Veterinarian

Craig grew up in Western Australia and originally studied biology and biochemistry. After several years involved in research, he began his veterinary studies at Murdoch University in Perth. After graduating in 1993, Craig moved to Bendigo and mixed animal veterinary practice. It was there that he met his wife, Desley. In 1996 Craig joined us at Carlton, where he is now a partner and senior vet. Craig's main area of interest is canine and feline medicine. Craig and Desley have a son, Macalister, a daughter, Matisse and also a boisterous greyhound cross, Nelson. Outside work Craig enjoys renovating his home, gardening and is a rabid supporter of the St Kilda Saints.

Dr Sondhya Basak - Veterinarian

Dr Sondhya joined the Carlton Veterinary Surgery team early January 2010. She moved to Melbourne from her home town of Whitley Bay, a small coastal town of north east England, in 2004. In 2008, she graduated from Melbourne University. Sondhya loves working with animals and enjoys working in both the medical and surgical departments. She hopes to expand her knowledge of smaller exotics pets.

Sondhya shares her time with her partner Dave, her two dogs, Tammy and Tess, and her cat Daisy. She has helped raise and foster many abandoned animals, taking in four newborn kittens only days after joining our clinic. Outside of work she enjoys good food and wine, and recreational sports including badminton and cycling.

Stacey Anderson ACVN - Head Veterinary Nurse

Stacey has been working as a Veterinary Nurse since she was 15, completing her Advanced Certificate of Veterinary Nursing in 1997. Stacey grew up with a multitude of animals as her parents breed greyhounds and own a boarding kennel. Stacey's special interests areas are emergency and critical care nursing in which she has gained extensive experience from her work in the Animal Emergency Centre at Melbourne University. Stacey lives with her husband Luke, daughter ‘Riley' and ‘Maggie' the dainty Dalmatian.

Jessica Ridgeway - Veterinary Nurse

Jessica joined our team in May 2010 as our newest veterinary nurse. Jessica has lived in Melbourne her whole life and has always loved animals. Being the eldest of four children, Jessica enjoys looking after the family pets, which currently include Moss, an Irish Terrier, and Radar, a Domestic Short Hair.

A love of animals and an interest in first aid are what encouraged Jessica to pursue a career in Veterinary Nursing. She is a qualified nurse and has completed a Certificate II in Animal Studies.

Jessica loves winter especially because that's when she can enjoy her favorite sports - AFL football and her latest interest, ice hockey.

Melissa Horwood - Veterinary Nurse

Melissa lives at the bottom of the Macedon Ranges with four cats (Kalee, Chelby, Bounce and Burnout), two Border Collies (Patch and Zoe), and two rats (Jay and Silent Bob). She has always had a passion for all creatures, although admits to having a soft spot for cats.

Since completing her VCE last year, Melissa has been studying Certificate II in Animal Studies as part of her Veterinary Nursing Course.

Melissa and her family breed Border Collies. Melissa also enjoys spending time with her dogs while helping out at the Gisborne and district obedience club.

Chiara - Puppy Pre-School Instructor

Chiara has worked with dogs for many years in both the training industry and veterinary industry. She believes all dogs need to learn basic skills so they can be enjoyed within the family as well as be accepted in the community. Her handling and training are based on Positive Reinforcement methods, so she uses lots of praise, treats, games and attention. This method has been scientifically backed and proven to be most effective.

In her classes both obedience and lifestyle skills are taught and training is practical. You will learn how to be a good and fair leader, build on the relationship, work on some basic skills and most of all have fun whilst doing so.

Chiara is an accredited Delta Instructor, member of the Delta Society, member of the Australian Pet Dog Trainers Association, as well as a qualified veterinary nurse.

Sarah - Groomer

Sarah has been a part of our grooming team for a few years now and runs a very busy service at our clinic. She has been grooming pets since she was 13 years of age. It all started with her family who owned giant Schnauzers. Sarah used to practise grooming on her own pets until she was able to get more experience elsewhere.

Sarah specialises in scissor-work for specific breeds, such as Poodles, Schnauzers and Bichon Frise. She can groom your pet to suit your specific needs. She recommends regular grooming at 4 to 8 weekly intervals to maintain your pet's nice and healthy condition.

Sarah is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am. To book your pet in for a groom, please call our clinic.

Kofi our Clinic Cat - retired

Meet one of our best friends Kofi, who used to keep us company at the clinic and enjoyed lots of hugs from both our team and our clients. After 10 years 'working' and living at the clinic, Kofi is moving on to the life of luxury.
