Breed ProfilesWhippetWhippets are a true sporting hound, bred for speed and are the fastest domesticated animal for their weight, capable of up to 56 kilometres per hour. Whilst Whippets look like miniature greyhounds, sleek and built for speed, it is unclear exactly which breeds were used to create the Whippet. It is however thought that Bedlington Terriers played an important role in the establishment of this breed. The origins and popularity of the Whippet extend to the north of England where they were raced by working man and expected to earn their keep through winnings. Today the Whippet is predominantly a much-loved gentle pet for all age groups and lifestyles. Afghan
